How to Keep Your Kids Safe While Playing
Any activity with kids needs constant monitoring especially with younger kids. With their high level of energy and curiousity, kids are at risk of injury outdoors. Here are few tips to ensure they enjoy themselves safely so that everyone can have a good time.
Make sure they are wearing proper footwear. Their shoes needs to be of the right size and grip the surface well. If there's going to be water - make sure the shoes aren't slippery or of a material that will make it uncomfortable for kids to move.
Ensure adult supervision is always there. Kids tend to get into a spot of trouble when no one's looking. So it is a good idea, no matter what the location or occasion to always keep your eyes on them.
Do safety checks on equipment regularly. A lot of times a small issue with their bicycles or play things could cause a bigger trouble or injury. It's better to keep one day of the month to check all their toys and play equipment to ensure they are in perfect playing condition.
Never leave a child alone near water. No matter what, dont let kids be around water or in the water unsupervised. Always ensure they have their floats on and always be at arm's length. If you have a pool area, make sure it's cordoned off, to keep kids from straying in that area or keep the entry to that area resticted.
Remove gardening or other equipment and tools from around play areas. Kids are curious by nature and anything could become a play toy for them. Sharp, rusted equipment, dangerous spray cans and liquids are best kept under lock and key, sealed at a height or inside a cupboard. Electrical equipment must never be left around plugged.
Provide fenced-in areas and enforce limits to outdoor play areas around driveways or streets. Provide a comfortable play area for the kids so they stay occupied and regularly inform them about the area that they need to be in and warn them about the dangers of crossing those boarders so that you create a habit of safety.
